Favorites for now.

Sorry I’ve been a stranger. I’ve got a lot going on. I haven’t had a day off work in over a week. I’m taking an online accounting class. Ew.

In more exciting news, I just started a foundation called Sound of Soweto for the school that my family and I visit in Kenya. Check out the website! Its been a long time coming, and I’m just THRILLED that its finally happening. Praise the Lord! He is being so good.

Anyways, here’s some of my favorites for now. You know I’ll have new ones in a week, but this is what I’m loving now.

Favorite NEW THING: my Kelly Rae Roberts journal. It makes me SO happy to write in every day. I love her and want to be friends.

Favorite GRANOLA BAR: Bobo’s Oat Bars. Remember how much I looove granola bars? I’m not lying to you when I say this is my favorite all time. Yeah. Whoa is right. They’re only made in Boulder, CO, so non- Coloradoans, sorry. But you can order them online. I’m planning on ordering like 42 boxes of these when I go back to school.

Favorite COLOR COMBO: I’m in decorating mode since I’m about to move into my new apartment in about a month. Thinking these colors would make me happy every day.

Which leads me to… Favorite STYLE ITEM: My new Mint Sorbet nail polish. It’s in the scheme. It makes me happy. The joy you can get from a dollar these days.

Favorite THINKER BOOK: Erasing Hell by Frances Chan. He spoke at the Cru Conference where my parents are for work. He was a gifted speaker and he truly loved Jesus. Things gonna be changin’ up in there. Anyways, this book is so timely, with all the controversial books and questions recently about hell and whether or not everyone goes to heaven. He goes right to Scripture, doesn’t take passages out of context, and delivers some hard truth that should make anyone think seriously about their destiny. Read it.

Favorite TIME WASTER: Pinterest y’all is AWESOME. One of my friends said, “Its like ESPN for women.” If you don’t have one, get one. You will thank me.

Favorite HOMEMADE CONCOCTION: Mean Green Couscous. It has snap peas, cucumber, green onions, pistachios, and FETAAAA. I wanted to use up the rest of my box of couscous, so I made this. Its real good and a fun twist on the traditional Couscous Tabbouleh. Recipe coming soon.

Favorite PERSPECTIVE BOOK: The Prodigal God by Tim Keller. My dad and I read his book The Reason for God together and now we’re reading this one. He is a great writer and offers a new perspective into the story of the prodigal son, by claiming that we have, more than anything, a prodigal God.

And my NUMBER ONE FAVORITE THING, that gets two shout outs in one post, is the Sound of Soweto. I am just so blessed by the Lord and excited to see what He has in store for the Sound of Soweto and our relationship with Soweto Academy.

Take a good look at me, God, my God;
I want to look life in the eye,
So no enemy can get the best of me
or laugh when I fall on my face.
I’ve thrown myself headlong into your arms—
      I’m celebrating your rescue.
I’m singing at the top of my lungs,
I’m so full of answered prayers.

My Top Ten of Lately…

ALOT has happened. People everywhere. Brother’s wedding. People gone. Working, working. Trip to Vail. And finally, home. Kinda feels like letting out a breath you’ve been holding in for a week. Aaaahhhhhh. Yes.

I would like to tell you everything that has happened over the past week and  a half, but I won’t. You’re welcome. Instead, here’s my top ten favorites of lately...

1. My brother’s wedding. It was just the best, and I got to be a bridesmaid for the first time. I think I’d just like to sign up to be a bridesmaid in people’s weddings as a career. Any takers?

2. Cake pops. Not the fakey Starbuck’s kind, but the moist kind with cake and frosting on the inside. My baker cousin made them for the wedding. Changed my world.

Definitely making some of these soon.

3. My new Lulu Lemon clothes. I splurged. I don’t feel guilty. Its really a wonderful thing.

4. The Help. I have been reading this book the past week and a half. It’s awesome y’all. If you need a summer read, pick this.

5. Hempz lotion. I got it in my bridesmaid gift. Its divine and works wonders on my ashy Colorado hands.

6. Homemade Hawaiian Pizza (courtesy of my Rachael Ray mag). My parents and I made it on our vaca to Vail. We made it with real ham steak, fresh pineapple and mozzarella, and great crust. I never want to get delivery again.

7. Horse. Yes, just one horse. My horse John that I rode in Vail this weekend. After traumatic past experiences on horses, he is the only one I will trust.

8. Cinnamon Raison Ezekiel Bread. This is not a new thing. We have had a relationship for quite a while now. But in all the hustle and bustle lately, there have been lots of breakfasts out to eat, and I just missed it a lot. My family and I kind of have this problem where we go to sleep excited about having our Ezekiel bread with almond butter and jelly in the morning. If you’ve ever tried it, you should know what I’m talking about. Anyways, we were happily reunited this morning, and I decided it deserved a shoutout for being so wonderful.

9. Segways. Always wanted to ride one. Rode one along the river on Vail Mountain. Gotta get one.

10. This whole wheat pancake from Butterhorn Cafe & Bakery in Frisco, CO. Topped with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, walnuts, and powdered sugar. Changed my worldview on pancakes. That’s for sure.

It’s been a wonderful week and a half. But real life isn’t so bad, either. Breeeeaaatheeeee.

Wedding Week.

Its wedding week!

I wish I could say it was my wedding week, but, sadly, I can’t. I probably wouldn’t be blogging about muffins and my new outfit if it were. But it is my brother’s wedding week! So I can.

We have been waiting for this week for quite a while, and its finally here! The family and friends start flooding in today, and we can’t wait to part-ay.

Because I love to see two people so giddy in love.

Because everyone knows that you must look at the groom’s glowing (with joy and sweat) face as his bride walks towards him.

Because the bride always looks so beautiful and reminds you of your girlish dreams of your wedding day.

Because you get a free party.

Because you get free food (and cake!)

And mostly because you get to buy a cute new outfit to wear to the wedding. Its kinda a rule.

But since I’m a bridesmaid, I didn’t get to pick out my own outfit. I get to wear a pretty eggplant purple dress that makes me look like a Greek goddess. (Or as close as I’ll ever come to one.)

But I did get to buy a new outfit for rehearsal morning and the rehearsal brunch. And it makes me happy, so be happy with me for a second and tell me its cute. Even if you don’t think so. K?

I am going to accessorize with a cute darker pearl necklace and cute sandals. I would just like to note also that everything  was on sale. I love the J Crew Outlet. It is my weakness.

Aside from my cuteness brunch outfit and being in a wedding for the first time, I can’t wait to be with all of my family and friends celebrating my brother and the love of his life! We have quite a few personalities coming, so this should be fun (:

Here we goo.. Da dun da dunn! (Sung to the tune of the “Here Comes the Bride” song, not the creepy horror movie song.)

what i’m loving now.

1. My friend Becky!

She flew across the country to visit me this weekend so of course she made the top of the favorites list! We went to an antique street market (which also makes the list), the cutest vintage teashop and cafe ever, Tres Jolie, and braved the rodeo in cowboy land! It was so much fun!

2. Grapefruit Izzes.

I mean, I don’t even like grapefruits. But this is different.  I can’t seem to keep enough of these things stocked up. I love them so much. I may have a problem.

3. C.S. Lewis

Smartest. Man. Ever. I want to be best friends with him so we can sit and have tea and crumpets and talk all day long. If you haven’t read him, you haven’t lived. Get off the computer and go by one of his books. Now.

4. Vintage antique markets and stores and decor!

For starters, my aunt took me to this place called the Barn that is an explosion of vintage antique decor, clothes, and jazz. Then me and Becky went to the Paris Street Market this weekend, which was an even bigger explosion of beauty. Then for lunch we ate at Tres Jolie, which I would like to be my home someday. I am finally getting my own apartment this fall, so I’m dreaming of vintage decor every night. I have liked this kind of stuff for a while now, but now I have the buzz.

5. Avocados.

Turkey, Swiss and Avocado sandwiches. Guacamole. On egg sandwiches and omelettes. Sprinkled with lemon and salt & pepper. All by its self. Its good stuff, guys. My mom always told me I should eat them because “they’re good and good for you!”. I understand now, Mom. You were right.

6. Knock Knock stuff! Check out their website on my Link Love page! They have the cutest and funniest notepads and other handy things. “They put the fun in functional.” I recently got this little receipt and money holder and tracker. I feel like such a cute grown-up.

7. Turkey and Brie and Jam Sandwiches

Reason 1: You can get them with all kinds of fun delicious jams like apple cranberry and apricot. Reason 2: They are French, gourmet, and make you feel like you should be transported to a dainty French town for lunch. Reason 3: Brie cheese. It suuuper creamy and just heavenly.

8. Playing piano.

I’ve been teaching myself, and I’m basically a master now. Not really, but I’m workin’ on it.

9. Tyrone Wells

He is definitely on my new favorite go-to playlist. If you like John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Barnes, and other dudes like that, you will love him.

10. Mossimo Burnout tanks.

They are comfy and summery and come in loads of colors. And they are cheap at Target! I love Target.

Happy summery days, everyone! Enjoy good friends, good food, and great sunshine! God Bless!
